Seems to be a very expensive dehumidifier??? Same concept...also requires electricity....

It depends on whether the air has 7 gallons of water in it. And $1350 will buy an awful lot of plastic bottles.

In any area with a significant winter heating season, this will be useless during the winter. The air is too dry already without taking more moisture out of it.

It could be an easy solution to getting drinking water in a crisis but you need a lot of electricity to get it running. Better off just storing the drinking water in your basement and learning how to distill water.

Agree on that one, as a rule for me anthing with "Eco" in its names should be looked upon with suspicion...similar to when anything with .com could make lots of money without good reason.

Kiwi, this machine might have Eco in its name but it's also green so it must be legit.

Whatever happened to solar stills anyway? Will the sun go out in a power crisis?

I don't think much of the EcoBlue, myself.
It's kind of like solar power: it'd be cool if you could afford to do it, but it doesn't seem to be the cheapest way of getting the desired result.

Where I am (midwest US) water from the tap costs about 1 cent for around 20 gallons. I think it'd be a lot more economical over the long run to just pour tap water through a Berkey or some other kind of (non-electric-using!) filter.

I have this dream of a desert house with Peltier junction-based cooling, and that also distills water out of humidity drawn from the outside air and the septic tank. You'd want to start it out with a couple hundred gallons, but if you could recover all that plus a gallon or two a day, would be fantastic.

I've searched online and never mind anything cheap--it's tough to find drinking filter systems that will handle blackwater for any price.

Maybe run the blackwater into a greenhouse plant bed, and then draw off the humid air from inside the greenhouse? Or build the roof of the greenhouse in a "V" shape, and catch the moisture as it runs down the inside of the roof....

-end-

You hit the nail right on the head Bill. Great thinking. The gray water is great for crops as it contains nutrients and the crops give off pure water vapour to be collected for you to drink. If you can sort out daytime ventilation to regulate the temperature then you're onto a winner. :applause_

Edit: Of course you will need to either cool the air or reduce the moist air pressure to bring it to the dew point to achieve condensation. No easy feat in a hot environment. You could trap the air and let it condense overnight but I don't know what that would do to your plants.

I was curious what people thought of the technology. Another thing I had been curious about is how people manage to grow such a large post count in such a short time....now I understand. Thanks!

Well, you could keep a big pot of water boiling on your (wood?) stove all
day..put lots of humidity into the air, the thing would probably work
great then! If you boil away, say 20 gallons, that would be enough
for the gadget to produce 7 gallons?

Seems like I keep getting a green slimy stuff on the coils of my dehumidifier when I run it in the summer. Can that stuff hurt
'ya if you drink it?

You are better off buying instant water. Just add...
